Philosophical debate
Description
Science and Humanities end-of-course Project.
A retelling of a boring philosophical debate in the form of a visual novel game. In the game, famous philosophers in history are transported to a mysterious space and asked to discuss how they view the Scientific and Technological Revolution. The player needs to listen carefully to their debates and make choices that will affect the future direction of the world, in total 10 different endings for you to explore.
*Due to a three-day time limit to complete, the game's art resources and some of the scripts were provided by generative AI.

Preparation: Confirming the demand, the main purpose of this game is to make complex philosophical ideas and history interesting, so that players with no basic knowledge can learn and experience the influence of philosophy on the human history. When designing this game, I thought of Ace Attorney. By raising objections and presenting clues to make players who do not have a foundation in law experience the fun of lawyers and detectives. So I decided to make a visual novel game.
-
Option Setting: To ensure that the player understands the philosophical content, the game is set up with a number of multiple choice questions during the debate. Multiple wrong answers will result in a failed ending. At the end of the game, the player is given the option to choose which philosophical ideas he or she supports, and the player's choice affects the future.
-
Storyline setting: Philosophy is presented in the form of debates. There are 10 different endings in the game, allowing players to feel the impact of their philosophical choices on the future, and to think about how normal people should react in the technological revolution.
-
Art Resources: Due to the 3-day time limit and my lack of drawing skills, I chose to use generative AI to generate art resources. I found real photographs of the philosophers and AI'd them to create figures that fit the profile.

Feedback
First time I made a game. I chose a simple and easy visual novel to start with. Looking at it now, the game still lacks a lot. Tedious text, not interesting enough options, settings that are not friendly to re-playing... But as far as I was concerned at that time, it was a successful try, and it gave me the confidence to step forward and design more games.
This project also made me decide to learn drawing, no need to draw beautifully, but at least to be able to draw some important elements.
